Farriers Centre in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs is my new Hotspot

I felt a little like Alice in Wonderland when I popped into Farriers Centre on Wednesday.  Just thinking about it puts a smile on my face!

Farriers Centre - Cape Town

Farriers Centre has been in the same spot, on Constantia Main Road, for quite a few years, but I had never really been there.  Then, a friend recently took over the centre and, with just a few changes here and there, suddenly, Farriers  is the place to go to in the Southern Suburbs.

I parked my car in the rather dusty area across the road – their parking was full, and, although annoying,  always a good sign.  As you walk up to the entrance, it gives nothing away of what you will find behind the green hedge and rather ornate gates…

You are welcomed by a beautifully restful green space with tinkling water fountains, red chairs and tables, lots of lavender and gorgeous little shops.  I could actually have been back in France!

I was meeting my girlfriends for lunch at High Tea.  It was busy and I suggest you do make a booking at lunchtime as there are only a few tables – although the menu is small and simple, I still found it difficult to make up my mind, it all sounded delicious and my eyes kept wondering over to the other tables to see what they were having…I always seem to experience food envy no matter what I order….  The service was friendly and one almost felt like you were having lunch at home.

Some of us chose the Quiche of the Day, brinjal, butternut and goats milk cheese with a fresh, green salad on the side, a big helping, which I, at first did not think I would finish…needless to say, I could not stop eating till my plate was clean…..

Others had the salmon & Avo salad which also looked wonderful and, according to my friends was delicious.

We ended off with their red velvet cupcakes.  What can I say; they were orgasmic, soft, moist and the deliciously smooth cream cheese icing on the top was literally the icing on the top.  YUM!

Afterwards we took a wander around the shops.  First off is Farriers, it’s like a huge treasure chest.  You don’t know where to look first as your eyes feast on the sparking chandeliers and you try to visualize all the bits and bobs in your own home.  If you are looking for gorgeous cushions, French furniture or simply a small gift, this is the place to go.

Smitten Home and Life is another lovely little shop where you can pick up a gift, children’s clothes and décor, beautiful sleepwear, in fact, as the name says, stuff for home and life…not the usual mass produced things.  You have to go and browse and make sure you have your credit card with you!!!

Alison’s Flowers, Gingerlily Beauty Spa, Heydt of Hair Design, all the shops that I love in one place, like I said “Alice in Wonderland”

My ideal day at Farriers Centre would be:

9h00 Breakfast at High Tea

9h45 Massage and facial at Ginger Lily Spa

13h00 Lunch at High Tea

14h00 Cut and blow dry at Heydt Hair Design

14h45 Shopping at Farriers and Smitten

16h00 Tea and Cake at High Tea

16h45 On the way out, buy a gorgeous bunch of flowers at Alison’s Flowers

Anyone want to join me? :) :)

About Cynthia

I am a fun loving woman who loves to explore new destinations and experiences. My philosophy in life is “Have suitcase, will travel” and I like to drag my family and friends along with me to share in the joy. Naturally, along the journey of “life” I like to indulge in long, lazy lunches, delicious champagne, creamy chocolate and most important, lots of laughter……Having being in travel for many years, I write about my personal experiences, mostly about Southern Africa but I do also get to travel internationally so will pop in some stories about my travels abroad. As food and wine are an integral part of my travel experience I also explore both those topics as well.
